Typical procedure for watch and clock overhaul:
Disassemble movement in its entirety
- Inspect all parts for rust, wear, and defects
- Clean parts in ultra-sonic cleaner
- Replace defective parts with same caliber as original
- Fashion obsolete parts by hand, if needed
- Hand-remove rust and polish pivots
- Reassemble and meticulously regulate time keeping
"IT TAKES A LOT OF PATIENCE."
"The most difficult part of overhaul step is the regulation of time keeping. Meticulous adjustments are made regarding the relationship of the hairspring to the trueness and weight of the balance wheel. It's about harnessing the transition of power from the mainspring into exact increments of time. It takes a lot of patience."
